Unsupported Devices Under Windows95

-- IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ: Here is a list of devices not supported by Windows95. If you have a device that is listed here, and it didn't come with native Windows95 drivers, you'll have to get a driver from the manufacturer. If the manufacturer doesn't have it yet, you most likely cannot use this device with Windows95. The devices listed here are not necessarily incompatible with Windows95; they just aren't explicitly supported. If you haven't yet upgraded to Windows95, you might want to put it off until all needed drivers are available.

If you're having trouble getting a device working with Windows95, you'll be surprised how a product like Windows95 that has been in testing for two years and has had more hype than any other has still taken some companies completely by surprise. It's not too helpful how Microsoft is happy to let you know which devices are compatible with Windows95, but won't tell you which ones aren't. Check back often, and reload if your browser requires you to do so, as this page is frequently updated. If you have any devices to add to this list, don't hesitate to send email.

Notes
*If you're trying to get a device to work, check out Obtaining Technical Support and Drivers.

*If you've found that your unsupported hardware is now nothing more than an expensive paperweight, you might be able to sell it at the Online Used Computer Swap.

*Many of the sound cards here claim to be fully Soundblaster-compatible (Creative Labs developed Windows95 drivers for their Soundblaster a year ago). This is yet another reason to avoid the "clones" - if you want Soundblaster-compatible, buy a Soundblaster.

*If your video card is not supported, there may be another, similar card that is. Look for other cards that use the same chipset, or consider investing in a new, fast, inexpensive, brand-name video card.

*If you have a SCSI CD-ROM drive, it will work with Windows95. Something to think about if you're looking for a new CD-ROM drive... (more information from Microsoft)

*For the tape drives noted with *, you'll need third-party software to use them with Windows95, not a device driver. Note that non-Windows95 third-party software will not support long filenames.
